The incident happened in Dutchess County at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Stormville took place on Monday, Oct. 28, resulting in several non-life threatening injuries, said DOCCS spokesperson Thomas Mailey.
The officer was transported by a state vehicle to a local hospital for treatment, Mailey said.
The incarcerated individual is being moved to another maximum security facility.
Out of an abundance of caution, DOCCS has locked down Green Haven and will conduct a full facility search for contraband, he added.
"The department has zero-tolerance for violence within our facilities and anyone engaged in misconduct will be disciplined," Mailey said. "If warranted, an incident will be referred for outside prosecution."
